Guy Arab

Registration Number FCR 196 is a 1948 Guy Arab, with Gardner 6LW engine and Park Royal H56R bodywork. It was fleet number 106 with Southampton Corporation.

Here are two PRV bodied Guy Arab III vehicles that were purchased to replace trams in Southampton.  Delivered in batches from 1948 onwards these vehicles (Fleet Nos. 64 & 71) are of the last batch delivered around 1954 and almost identical to the earlier buses.  Still owned  by Southampton City Council, these buses are in the care of the Southampton & District Transport Heritage Trust (S&DTHT). 

Pictured here by Matthew Saunders of the (S&DTHT) is No.64 (FTR511).  Now converted to an open top along with its companion vehicle Fleet No. 67, it is used for sightseeing tours.

Pictured here by Terry Knappett of the (S&DTHT) is No.71 (LOW217). New in 1954 this bus was never fitted with the familiar Guy emblem of the a Native American Indian Chief with full feathered headdress.
