Garage Special - October to December 2003

During October the garage rebuild went apace until we had a visit from the 'man from the Council'.  Someone had complained to the Council reporting 'illegal building works on land behind a property named [immediately below our garages]'.  The man from the council said that planning permission to replace the garages was likely required but he also said that the Council probably wouldn't hold anything up.  However within the week the Council had placed a stop order on the work.

We were told we definitely needed planning permission.  The builders had advised us that planning was unnecessary for a rebuild.  So there became an impasse between the builders and the Council and much deliberation ensued.  Nothing therefore was achieved during November and December but the builders reluctantly drew up plans and submitted them in the new year.
