Ealing House - Directions

This page is in printer-friendly black & white so please print and take with you as reference!

From Helston

Take the road to Porthleven (it passes by Coronation Lake - the boating lake). At Porthleven, this road becomes Fore Street at the end of which is the harbour. Just before you reach the harbour, turn immediately sharp left (by the Chemist) into Shute lane (i.e. not alongside the harbour by the Harbour Inn). Follow Shute lane turning to the right at the end then immediately left into Prospect Place. Ealing House will be found as the second building on the left up the incline. It is recognisable by its front conservatory and balcony above.

From Penzance

Take the road to Helston. Before reaching Helston you will find another road to Porthleven on the right which is well signposted as an historical harbour. Follow the road into Porthleven and after you turn left into the harbour area (the harbour will be on your right) follow the road until you see Shute Lane directly in front of you (next to the chemist). Follow Shute Lane turning to the right at the end then immediately left into Prospect Place. Ealing House will be found as the second building on the left up the incline. It is recognisable by its front conservatory and balcony above.

Be careful entering Shute Lane from this direction as you will be cutting across traffic from Fore Street that is turning right into the harbour area.

Parking

Note: The space opposite Ealing House and by the small cottages across the way is private property not belonging to Ealing House. Ealing House does not have a parking space allocated to it.

Although Prospect Place is narrow and access is required at all times, you may park outside Ealing House briefly to unload. Please, after unloading, be considerate and park by the wall in Prospect Place just a few paces away down the incline.

Parking is usually found quite easily here. However, if you experience difficulty you may wish to try Peverell Terrace. Go back, down the incline, and follow Prospect Place around to the left. At the end is Salt Cellar Hill (very steep and narrow). Turn left (beware traffic from the right and the sides of your vehicle) and at the top of the hill take a very sharp hairpin turn to the right (beware traffic) into Peverell Terrace. You should find parking along the terrace. Ealing House is easily reached from the downward steps nearby the hairpin turn.

Whilst Porthleven has very narrow streets it is usually easy to park within a short distance from Ealing House.

If required, the owners may be able to allocate a parking space at PenTre House.  Please contact for availability/pricing.

Please note that many of the roads around Porthleven are very narrow and may not be suitable for some vehicles, most especially in the village area where Ealing House is located.  Whilst Ealing House is not on a main thoroughfare, it is quite accessible, although the surrounding streets are sometimes further restricted by inconsiderate parking.  Please remember the need for delivery and waste disposal trucks to gain access and more importantly the potential access needs for emergency vehicles.

 Please park considerately!

And please remember that, all over Cornwall, the hedgerows look green and lush; but under this greenery is usually a friendly granite wall which has a habit of not moving, irrespective of how hard you might try with whatever machinery is at your disposal!
