Periodically, submitted news items are placed here if our editor considers that they are of potential interest to our site visitors. They may be of a commercial or advertising nature and their accuracy is not guaranteed. The site owner makes no commercial gain from these news items as this site is not-for-profit and will remain so.

Over the last couple of months, during our rainy season (that's summer in the UK - and when doesn't it), I have made some significant changes to the website mainly as a result of needing to simplify the inclusion of the many photographs and other interesting items that have been donated to me by John Foster. The main features are:
The
indexes have been simplified and greater use of the banner space has been
made with the site counter, update date and copyright notice. Plus
occasional banner message links will be placed in the banner space.
Many
images have been increased to 800 or 850 pixels wide where there is
sufficient detail available.
There is a new image display mechanism that can offer,
in addition to the 800/850 pixel images, super-sized images (to the original
scan size of up to 1500 pixels wide) where available.
The text above the normal large image advises if a super-sized image is
accessible. I will be adding more super-sized images as time permits.
There
are random slideshows on the PRV & HBH main pages.
There
is a large slideshow feature within the PRV section that can be used as a
fun image display whilst away from your computer. But beware that it
is processor hungry.
A
forum is no longer supported - excepting for three occasions it hadn't been
used since 2004. I have added those forum messages as entries in the
guestbook.
The
guestbook has been brought in-house to avoid the VERY irritating
advertisements from the external supplier that had become overly annoying.
Update:
As of 2017, the
mail-list feature operates entirely from my server.
I have decided to no longer support the WebRing service as the "ring" I began has been infiltrated and WebRing rules make it too onerous to manage. Also some other WebRings I supported by inclusion have users that seem unwilling to play by the accessibility rules (mainly missing reciprocal links). It was once a good idea!
I have quite a few items remaining from the John Foster donation to incorporate over the coming wet season (that's the one that lasts until the next rainy season). So I trust you will return periodically and check out the site.
